Review of The Jerk (1979) by Dylan N — 05 Aug 2009
The Jerk presents Steve Martin doing the oft-played "amiable idiot" character to perfection, with a plethora of clever wordplay and sight gags and excellent comic pacing keeping the film fresh and exciting the whole way through.
The Jerk tells a familiar tale of rags to riches, and then does in again in the films finale. It may not provide any revelations underneath its superficial surface layer of comedy, but the performance of Martin and the goofy unpredictability of the gag-a-minute pace makes the film a grear comedic experience.
