Review of The Jazz Singer (1927) by Andrew C — 30 Aug 2009
Not nearly the classic it used to be. For sure, this is still a great film and maybe one of the 5 most important films ever made. I do feel bad that I didn't like it more, but for me, the story just wasn't there.
Sure, there are scenes that are just plain magical even 80 years later. I love the performance scenes...love them. But the connecting material is dated and seems to be aging incredibly fast now. A classic.
..a must see...but unfortunately not as memorable or enjoyable as other influential films like Birth of a Nation, Stagecoach, or Chaplin's films.
