Review of The Jazz Singer (1927) by Bryan M — 08 May 2010
Although many have seen clips from this film, I suspect that a significant number have never watched the whole thing... and if you're in that group, you've missed a lot. Although most often remembered as being the "first" talkie -- the film is rich in themes and sub-themes and holds up astonishingly well for an 80+ year old movie.
From the internal battle between family desires and personal dreams to the tug of tradition versus career, many of the topics dealt with will resonate with all viewers. Highly recommended for the whole family.
