Review of The January Man (1989) by Danny K — 11 Jul 2006
A quirky film that I enjoy for the simple reason that it is as schizoid as some of the characters in it. I love the office that Nick (Kline) creates for himself, and spent several years in my adolescence hoping to replicate it one day. Would also like to pick up someone like Mastrantonio under similar circumstances as well. Wrong? Maybe. But it had a certain appeal.
Alan Rickman and Kline make me chuckle till I snort in this film, and I appreciate the way Sam tackles the problem of the January Man.
I have a soft spot for this film and the direction it's coming from. Sure, there was something a little off the mark in the execution, but it still gets full points. Nobody's perfect. But despite its flaws, I love this movie.
