Review of The January Man (1989) by Dan S — 27 Oct 2010
Not bad thriller which nmainly works due to its cast rahter than its faltering script.
Kevin Kilne is good value as Nick Starkey a rahter unusual cop who gets assigned to a rather unusaual case by his brother played by Harvey Keitel.
As I said above the one thing this film has going for it is its cast with a Shouty Rod Steiger ,a lovely Susan Sarandon and a lovely performance from Alan Rickman as Klines artist friend.
The trouble is the script veers so badly from comedy to thriller that your not sure what kind of film your really getting by the end.
If its a athriller then it lacks the thrills and if its a comedy then it needs a few more laughs.
Not a total disaster then but more of a missed oppurtunity given the stallar cast.
