Review of The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) by Amanda S — 16 Jul 2008
Austen tie-ins really are forced. Lousy script with nothing much to drive it. Lousy acting in some scenes. Oh, and the premise of the book club is very weak. Aside from that, some of the statements about Austen novels are wildly inaccurate, and the similarities they find are, in fact, different in every particular.
It's an insult to anyone who's ever studied Austen, or to people with any expectations of quality in their movies. Some very tired cliches, and painfully silly stereotyping. Captain Wentworth and Anne never hated each other.
I've read them all, some 6 or 7 times, so yes, I would know.
