Review of The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) by Tad T — 26 Jul 2008
A lovely cast, oodles of warmth and humour, and some thoughtful meditations on love and life make this a cut above most Hollywood "chick flicks". Robin Swicord makes potentially formulaic concepts rise to something better by focusing on the characterisations and the small details that reflect the state of modern relationships.
Each of the key characters gets to show both their cruelties and kindnesses, and to move somewhere new by the time the film is finished. Recommended for an evening cuddled up in front of the TV.
