Review of The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) by Jaimie J — 08 Jan 2009
It's a big undertaking... I mean it's a movie involving so many Austen characters and their modern day counterparts. And of course the characters don't match up exactly. So I spent a lot of the movie furiously thinking "okay, so she's kinda like Harriet, and kinda like Fanny, with a little Anne...".
The movie treats men like they are total morons, and women are superior yet at the same time pretty clueless too. Come to think of it, that's basically how Jane Austen portrays men and women too. Although in her books it's more like characters are flawed and do stupid things, in the movie it's like all people are just plain stupid.
But I liked it.
