Review of The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) by Kristen P — 29 Jan 2009
I'd probably be like Allegra in this film, and watched only the Jane Austen movies, so in terms of being familiar with all of these books, I'm not. There are comments made about the books that probably only J.
A. fans would understand (and causes enough intrigue for me to want to read the books!). It centers on love relationships, both in the books and in real life, which typically all seems to end in a happy bundle.
The ending of the movie: only real complaint!... rushed feeling and kind of cheesey. Although it is the kind of ending one'd expect from a girlie flick. Most enjoyable parts of this movie is that it is divided into sections, based on the book being read each month, which also sections out the drama in each of these ladies lives.
Grigg's character also captivated me; he is the only man in the group, mysterious and most willing to break out of his habitual genre selection: Sci-Fi. I liked how he related to the stories through a the lens of Star Wars, lol.
Although, if given the reality of it... by reading J.A. (and any of the men in the movie) knew they were going to get laid in the end... most men would read it.
