Review of The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) by Lisa S — 04 Jul 2009
This was a nice enough film, made good by the addition of Hugh Dancy as the out-of-place sci-fi geek. He lifted the film above the mundane and made up for the occasional lack of consistent plot. There were too many characters to truly get under the skin of all involved, which was a shame.
Great to see Marc Blucas (of Buffy fame) in a big-screen role. This was an accessible film; I've only read Sense and Sensibility and I coped fine with the Austen content of the story. I'm sure I'd have enjoyed it even more if I'd read all six books.
