Review of The Jacket (2005) by Michelle W — 29 Mar 2009
Jack Starks is injured in the army, a shot to the head gives him retrograde amnesia. After he released he is framed for killing a cop. Because he could not remember what happens he is sent to an asylum. He is treated with 'the jacket'.
Keira Knightley's accent is a little see through, but her and Adrien Brody are great. Although Daniel Craig does the best job, prefect realism and he is unrecognisable.
This film wasvery ambitious, the whole anti-psychiatry, then this see the future thing, and then love conquers all, fate, too many ideas, and none of them developed enough. The film felt like too much of a hodgepodge and very unfocused. Its was an artists rather narrow minded vision, needing tweaking, refining.
The future thing, makes me think Vanilla Sky, didn't quite make sense but here is very unnecessary for an already crowded and confusing plot.
But this film had some incredible visual effects. The sharp cuts in his eyes were spectacular. I loved all the close ups.
It do think it has a lot of potential and it was good viewing but its needs a lot of work.
