Review of The Jacket (2005) by Luc G — 12 Oct 2009
This movie was not as eerie or thrilling as it was made out to be in its trailers. It was very visceral and visual, and it poses interesting possibilities about reality, sanity, and time. I enjoy movies as such that successfully transport me, if only momentarily, to a place where such things are possible (like where a guy who looks like Adrien Brody can somehow induce feelings of romance in someone who looks like Keira Knightley).
Its a classic, albeit predictable, happy ending. Having said that the characters are more like plot vehicles as opposed to people and are given little consideration as far as depth or development. Brody is convincing as a troubled war vet, and Knightley is ok as a self-medicating dead beat.
