Review of The Jacket (2005) by Georg P — 27 Feb 2010
This really reminded me of 'Jacob's Ladder': war veteran discharged from the army due to severe gun wound later finds himself the subject of strange medical experiments that provoke visions of the future but everyone thinks he's crazy. 'Ladder' is more disturbing and visually jarring, but 'Jacket' tells a better, more satisfying story. Deliberately paced with fine acting, Knightley wavers in some scenes but has a difficult role and trumps any uncertainty with smoldering eyes.
***MINOR SPOILER ALERT***.
Have to categorize a film of this supernatural nature made in the 2000s that plays out at face value without trying to incorporate a major twist sucker-punch as "refreshing!".
