Review of The Jacket (2005) by Alvin P — 22 Apr 2011
The Jacket starts out with a soldier that has lost everything but yet finds love in the most unusual of places, a straight jacket locked in a morgue drawer. The script had a couple of holes in it and there were a few unbelievable scenes that were never really answered. Like Daniel Craig's character and why he killed his wife. The story had some merit though. There was no great big question or issue that needed to be answered and after meeting the grown up girl the audience can quickly figure out what he is going to try and accomplish. Yet, like The Butterfly Affect it is entertaining enough to keep the audience in their seat to finish the story. Adrien Brody is believable and the audience will feel sorry for his character. Why he doesn't tell the doctor about the address of the girl so his story can be corroborated and eventually be exonerated is not for me to answer. Maybe he does it to be with the girl in the future and he just figures he is going to die of a head trauma anyway.
There is one huge unanswered question though. Why did they show the man who actually killed the trooper sitting at the bar if they were not going to change the direction of the storyline or even give the audience their needed closure of revenge. Or at least his ironic ending.
Overall, the story was enough to keep me entertained if I did not think too much into the story.
