Review of The Jacket (2005) by Dylan C — 28 Jun 2011
"When you die, there's only one thing you want to happen. You wanna come back.".
A psychologically maddening brain-buster that has gone out of it's mind, a damn good reality-bender that requires multiple viewings. A disturbing yet compelling head trip of sheer insanity that thrills and chills the entire time. A elegantly puzzling, downright valiant, fiercely visual and highly stylized psychological escapade that's a blast to watch. British Director John Maybury collaborates with big name Producers Steven Soderbergh and George Cloony to bring this absorbing beast of a film to life. It's supremely volatile, intensely striking, and highly engaging filmmaking. The visuals are hardcore and in your face, the story is crafty and imaginative and the direction is excellent. A damn good film that is guaranteed to make you think, and think hard. A visceral and strangely involving piece of expert craftmanship that shatters all reality and turns your brain into a melting pot of maddening insanity. Well worth it, it will certainly appeal to fans of the psychological thriller genre.
Adrien Brody gives another spectacular performance and single-handedly breaths the life into this film. Great work. Keira Knightley as always, is beautiful and also happens to do some excellent acting throughout. Kris Kristofferson gives a dark and disturbing, yet great performance as well.
