Review of The Jacket (2005) by Kurtis A — 02 Feb 2013
I knew this was a psychological thriller, but it went in a direction I totally was not expecting, so kudos for that. Unfortunately, everything else was just an above average thriller. The plot is kind of scattered.
And while it kept me engaged the entire time, at the end, I thought to myself "huh, I don't quite know what to make of this." So...there's that. Adrien Brody was great, walking a thin line that makes the audience constantly question his sanity.
I also really liked Keira Knightley. It was something completely different for her and I thought she handled it really well. An unexpected performance I loved was Daniel Craig as one of the mental institution patients.
Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kris Kristofferson round out the cast well. However, there were two performances I just didn't buy. Mackenzie Philips and Brendan Coyle as the two orderlies. They had this way too stereotypical mean orderly thing going on, to the point where I was laughing, so that definitely took me out of it.
The only other thing that took me out were the various accent slips. The cast is largely from the UK, and there were a few times where that bled through. Overall, I have seen worse, and I have also seen better.
It's interesting enough for at least one watch though.
