Review of The Italian Job (2003) by Sean P — 16 Feb 2014
Most of the people I talk to absolutely adore this movie, some of which claim that it's better than Ocean's 11. Two things: First and foremost, it is even half as good as Ocean's 11. The script is far less humorous (though it has its moments), the chemistry between the characters is as smooth, the action isn't as cool, and, most importantly, the directing just isn't as good. Statham and Mos Def make up for a mostly uninteresting group of characters. You never really gain sympathy for Wahlberg's character, Theron is kind of annoying, and Seth Green's character is really just there to make the other characters funnier.
Point is... the film is a jumble of a bunch of uninteresting plot pieces and characters.
Note: Norton actually does a great job as the bad guy in this. He's the best actor on the cast. The rest of them aren't really trying.
