Review of The Italian Job (1969) by Edward B — 03 Sep 2008
Weird. Very odd.
The musical director should be shot....the music at the start had no connection with the images, and should have been done better. The heist itself had no music whatsoever, which was a shock, watching it from today's perspective where action always has music, and then, when they drive off at the end, the music kicks in. Wierd.
As for the heist itself - beauifully planned, well filmed, with just enough surprise, and some of the best driving sequences ever put to film.
Watching the film as a whole, though, it seems to be missing half its' story. What happened with the girl? The mafia? Benny Hill.
That brings me to my next point. Pure genius in casting Benny Hill as a dirty old man. Full points there.
I reccomend this movie just on the basis of the heist action and the mighty minis.
