Review of The Italian Job (1969) by Olli H — 09 Aug 2012
Charlie Croker (Michael Caine) is just released from prison and already he got another job planned: a heist in Turin, Italy and the target is 4 million dollards worth of gold. But when in Italy, the mafia doesn't look kindly for the limey thiefs and the race is on...
"The Italian Job" wasn't at all what I expected. Sure there's charm, Michael Caine giving a good performance and the classic Mini Cooper chase scene was iconic but overall the movie was simply boring & stupid. The chase scene goes way out of proportions and you would think it could transform into Wile E. Coyote vs The Roadrunner cartoon. The group is also full of idiots and only Charlie seems to know what's going on all the time, they even start to bicker in the middle of the heist. That and the somewhat stupid and hasty ending really nailed the this coffin up. Classic it may be, but good movie it was not.
