Review of The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) by I Don't Know W — 08 Sep 2011
For a start I only watched this for Kilmer (I'm watching all his work) Thewlis was brilliant I thought and the only one who seemed to do any real acting, he just thought Moreau was mental and he is. Its a cool albeit stupid idea to splice animals with people on some weird island but you can see some crack pot possibly trying to do this in real life.
Kilmer was nominated for worst supporting actor in this film but I don't think that's fair, he was I thought, Montgomery was an utterly insane character and when he took on the role of Moreau, pretending to be him, putting on his voice etc was ok. I missed how Montgomery died though, it all gets a bit out of hand and I think he gets shot.
Given the fact I kinda liked this it's not really a great film by any means, a good idea but poorly directed and fairly poor make up to boot.
