Review of The Island (2007) by Justin R — 07 Jul 2011
This Russian film centers around Father Anatoly, a mystic and Russian Orthodox monk who lives in an island monastery. Fr. Anatoly has spent 30 years in the monastery repenting from an act he committed during his service in WWII.
Ostrov (The Island) portrays the ways in which God can bring great good even out of tragedy. It also shows that the one who loves the Lord most is the one forgiven of the bigger debt (Lk 7:41-43), and that holiness comes to the man who most recognizes his own unworthiness and completely abandons himself to the mercy of God.
