Review of The Island (2006) by Gomi A — 21 Sep 2012
This film had an interesting idea which is executed nicely, only stumbling a bit towards the end. "The Island" follows a clone as he escapes the articficial paradise that he, and many others, are being kept in, with all of the residents under the assumption that the world has been the victim of a nuclear war, but there is one remaining paradise known as "The Island", which is actually a way to kill the clones and harves their organs for their owners.
It is a very big idea for a film, and it spends it's entire run time developing it. The acting is pretty solid, with Sean Bean giving the best performance out of them all. The visuals are absolutely stunning, both the practical sets and the visual effects.
The film only stumbles a bit towards the end, taking a few leaps and bounds over logic to get to the conclusion. However, this isn't a problem because these problems are not an issue. It is an ejoyable sci-fi romp that is worth a look.
