Review of The Island (2005) by Ehk2 E — 06 Jan 2015
I wanted to like this more. I believe the premise/idea for this movie is a great one. Unfortunately, it is just so lame on many other levels. It doesn't surprise me though because Michael Bay SUCKS.
I have seen enough of his movies to know that he is more about visual spectacle than story. So as I said, the premise was a good one. There are just a few problems here though. One is that this story is supposedly set in 2019, except that some of the futuristic look has it seeming more like 2050.
This is tripe. It will never be considered a classic. Also, I have seen Scarlett Johansson enough to know that she is not a great actress at all. I find her ridiculously unconvincing in this. There are so many cheesy elements that I could not call this a good movie in the slightest.
However, I do like some philosophical thoughts it has made me have. I entirely think it could happen that a corporation could be doing nefarious things behind a veil like cloning people and harvesting them for organs.
The scary thing is that the premise of this movie might actually happen in real life, but in this movie it's told with juvenile antics. This movie aspired to be something great and fell far short of the goal.
Again, Michael Bay SUCKS.
