Review of The Island (2005) by Jonny B — 20 Jul 2012

Although the title may sounds little bland, do not prejudge and you will not be disappointed; basically the idea is fairly complex so the LESS you know the better.

Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson as two 'people' who are anticipating that they will one day win the lottery draw and be able to escape onto a fantasy island. Although, as you may suspect, all is not as it seems and there are numerous twists and turns in the script which make the Island so engaging.

Due to the fact Michael Bay is director you can already imply that the movie will be huge explosions and action sequences, again a little overdone for my liking; it doesn't escape the fact though that this is a very well thought out piece of cinematography. At times you are even left wondering if that will be a possible future for the human race - confusing without spreading the spoilers!

Having said this, The Island isn't a thriller which will stick in your mind for months to come and thus, it's forgettable. It's an enjoyable ride while it lasts though.
