Review of The Iron Lady (2011) by Michael V — 16 Jul 2012
"This is yet one of those movies where the movie is barely good on it's own but saved by the actors who carry the movie by theirselves by giving a brilliant oscar-worthy performances examples: Streep, Adams, Hoffman & Davis in Doubt (which was a very good movie on it's own but again the actors made the movie so much better.
Marion Cotillard's oscar-winning performance (one of the greatest female performances IMO) in La Vie En Rose. Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn. Charlize Theron oscar-winning performance (up there with Cotillard's performance as one of the greatest in Monster and Christina Ricci too.
Last but not least Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush & Helena Bomh Carter in The King's Speech.""Back to the movie, Meryl Streep finally wins another Oscar (though I thought Viola Davis should have deservingly won it for The Help) more than 20 years (she should have won for the aforementioned Doubt, period) with this brilliant performance.
She's not just playing Margaret Thatcher, she IS her which Streep is so good at doing with historic roles. Jim Broadbent who is an Oscar-winner, is a great veteran actor. He has his share here, too.
One of my favorite & quite frankly one of the most underappreciated composers Thomas Newman composes a spectacular score with the help of another fave of mines Clint Mansell, another underappreciated composer.
""The Iron Lady again holds it's own as a movie though it's pretty slow but Streep convincing, powerful performance helps it be more watchable.".
