Review of The Iron Lady (2011) by Frances Ann A — 18 Sep 2012
A great movie could have been made of Margaret Thatcher, and Meryl Streep could have been the one to do it. Unfortunately, this movie is not it. I was bored out of my mind by watching the aging Maggie Thatcher shuffle around in her home.
Sorry, folks, but being an elderly lady is not what makes Margaret Thatcher a fascinating and heroic person. Why couldn't the filmmakers have simply done a biography of Thatcher? This would have been soooooo much more interesting.
I didn't learn one new thing from seeing this movie, and I frankly wish I hadn't wasted the time. In addition to the boredom, the film is somewhat maudlin.
