Review of The Iron Lady (2011) by Andy B — 03 Nov 2012
Reading Abi Morgan's script might help resolve unanswered questions on whether Lloyd's directing failed or perhaps more exciting work didn't survive the editing room. The Iron Lady is an uncomfortably fragmented biopic, spending unnecessary precious screen time dwelling on Thatcher's later life health issues, and repetitively so.
Sadly the more interesting topics, like some of her most historic moments in the political spotlight, are shafted into montages. One thing is flawless however, Streep's stunning performance. It just doesn't seem enough to use descriptives like stunning or brilliant when referring to Meryl Streep sometimes.
She carries the film and her performance is a knock out. Hail her royal Streepness. Possibly the greatest actor ever.
