Review of The Iron Lady (2011) by Gordon C — 05 Dec 2012
Unfortunately, the movie never explores in depth Thatcher's political ideology and its consequences, nor does it really search and unveil the complexity of her personality. This is why the movie leaves you with a sense of emptiness, like something was missing.
Meryl Streep on the other hand, is brilliant. This actress, is, in my opinion, not only the greatest actress alive in Hollywood, but she has a position among the greatest since Hollywood's beginnings.
Most of the actors in such roles, ultimately cover the character that they should impersonate with their pompous performances that leave a sense of "trying too hard" to get the applause of the audience.
Meryl Streep, on the other hand, vanishes inside her role. You forget about her and what you see is Margaret Thatcher throughout the movie. You do not see Streep impersonating Thatcher.
