Review of The Iron Lady (2011) by James D — 30 Apr 2013
I don't understand the horrible ratings.
Streep's performance is out of this world.
And strangely intimate and sensitive touch of portraying the Iron Lady. To restore her feminine side is an ambition justly done.
The determined spirit in her eyes and the soft look when she turned to Denis and her kids, the longing demand for him to not leave.
There is an tranquil quality to it, the lines and pace feels like a play live on stage. The breathing. When they are speaking a couple lines together arguing inside her head.
Such a powerful performance.
If people are less biased about Mrs Thatcher, I think the film would be appreciated much better. She may be the most controversial female prime minister. But she was a lady too, she loved her man, she enjoyed being around men. And I deeply appreciate that that side of her wasn't forgotten. The last scene of her washing the teacup was a brilliant touch.
RIP Mrs Thatcher.
