Review of The Iron Giant (1999) by Brendan L — 29 Mar 2012
I hate to get right to the point, but this is one of the best animated films ever.
The Iron Giant is directed by Brad Bird (of The Incredibles and Ratatouille) and was one of his first animated features he directed.
The Iron Giant is not your average animated feature, it is set during the height of the Cold War (1957) in a small town in Maine. References to the tension between the Soviet Union and the U.S.A. are peppered throughout the film, and helps the audience to be immersed in to the picture.
Hogarth is a young boy living in this small town and his fairly sedate life gets turned upside down when he saves an alien robot from death due to being electrocuted. The robot and the boy secretly develop a relationship, and soon the C.I.A. are noted of this mysterious visitors presence. Tensions run high in this film of love, human life, and being scared of the unknown.
An entertaining and fantastic film all the way through, The Iron Giant gets a 5/5.
