Review of The Ipcress File (1965) by Michael T — 16 Aug 2008
The first of the "Harry Palmer" movies adapted from British auther Len Deighten's book of the same name. Palmer is not James Bond. As played by Michael Caine he is an average sort of bloke who would not stand out in a crowd, which is pretty much how a real spy would be but James Bond isn't.
To affect this, Caine wears glasses and off-the-rack clothing. The plot with the brainwashing is pure science fiction, but similar to some of the brainwashing techniques that the CIA and KGB were funding experiments in at the time.
Well worth viewing.
