Review of The Invitation (2016) by Jacob B — 22 May 2016
I want to start off by saying that I am not someone who has ADHD and can't keep focus. I almost always enjoy slow burn thrillers but this film was exhaustingly uninteresting. The runtime stands at 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Nothing of any significance happens until 1 hour and 20 minutes into the film. Up until that point the plot stands still and doesn't bother movie forward. All that's given is a lot of exposition and back story on why certain characters are the way they are.
For a film with an interesting premise it wastes it on somewhat of a build up that never pays off. By the time anything interesting happens I all but lost interest. Some of the performances also seemed a little bland If the runtime were a little shorter and turning point in the story would have happened a lot sooner the movie would have been a whole lot better and more interesting.
Disappointed in a movie that I heard so much praise for.
