Review of The Invitation (2016) by Joellemm — 04 Jun 2016
A slower build up than maybe required, and with side characters that have just enough to differentiate themselves, this psychological thriller could appear boring to those who fail to invest. However, maintaining focus provides some of the most suspenseful moments you can expect to get from such a film.
The clever writing and ominous music evokes the unshakable feeling that there is something more to the evening than just a reunion, leaving you constantly guessing when the climax will be reached. Although satisfying, the ending provides little more than you eventually expect, detracting slightly from an otherwise compelling film, which nevertheless deserves the patience it requires.
