Review of The Invitation (2016) by Dan Z — 27 Apr 2016
The Invitation is moody and tense and captures effectively the unease that comes into existence after a broken marriage and the resultant pall on a friend circle as a whole. As slow as it is tense, The Invitation does a lot to evoke the idea that it is ultimately people, rather than apocalypses or cataclysms or alien invasions, who prove to be the most fascinating subjects for a filmmaker.
A shoutout to Lidsay Burdge who is phenomenal here and nothing like her character in Teacher, which incidentally, is another great indie flick.
