Review of The Invitation (2016) by Chris R — 28 Jul 2016
The Invitation is a slow building mistory/thriller that relies on nothing but brilliant directing and excellent acting to tell its story. This is a film that doesn't spoon feed the audience and allows them, along with the main character, to peel back layers to these otherwise shady dinner hosts and try to discover what they're really up to.
My only complaints about this movie is that the second half of the second act is paced a little too slow and some of the characters are completely naive at points. However, the very tense, heart pounding third act keeps you on the edge of your seat and more than makes up for that.
Let me just say, the ending will blow your socks off. I recommend this movie to people who like slow building, contained, atmospheric, suspenseful, clever stories that aren't spoonfed to you.
