Review of The Invisible Woman (2013) by Ryan R — 28 Jan 2014
Although there are some issues with the script (the role of Dickens' wife is written off a little quickly, for example), Ralph Fiennes is brilliant as director - he shows restraint and subtlety where appropriate, and in doing so creates an amazingly natural feeling film, embracing the warmth of natural and candle light, and uses the sounds of the outdoors to emphasize the storms brewing in these characters.
But he's just as meticulous as an actor, bringing an air of complexity to this love story, matched perfectly by Felicity Jones who, in an absolutely breathtaking performance, gives it life.
