Review of The Invisible War (2012) by Sam B — 01 Jul 2013
This rating can't do this movie justice. For a topic this serious, the filmmakers create an painfully exquisite portrait of lives torn apart by rape in the ranks. Rather than pursue individual perpetrators, Kirby Dick apprehends our broken military justice system and the toxic culture that permeates some military units.
In statistics, in heart-wrenching interviews, in inane Army public service announcements warning women to always walk with a buddy on base, The Invisible War breaks open a self-serving system from the perspective of its victims, generations of brave, heroic men and women who wanted to serve their country and were not served by their military.
This war has yet to be won, and its casualties are no less damning than fratricide.
