Review of The Invincible Iron Man (2007) by Jorge P — 11 Nov 2009
An animated version of the red and gold avenger's origin story, released a year before the Robert Downey Jr live action version, but nonetheless enjoyable.
This tale takes a more fantasy style tactic with Tony Stark called in to stop the rise of bad dude The Mandarin from the grave.
Of course the animated version of Stark is not a patch on Downey Jr's but that was only to be expected. However, he's much better than his portrayal in the disastrous animated Avengers movie.
For a cartoon this is actually incredibly tightly plotted and has some very good twists and turns in the story as well as some surprisingly adult action sequences.
The animation has allowed for much more fanciful bad guys as Iron Man battles The Mandarin's elementals but that really adds to the appeal of this neat little film. Rather than just doing an animated version of what could have been live action, the medium is made use of to give this a fresh and interesting take on the Iron Man mythology.
