Review of The Invincible Iron Man (2007) by Joshua M — 29 Jan 2010
Looking at the graphics, I've had guessed this movie came out in 1997, not 2007. This would've been a great movie had the cgi not been so horrible. As it stands, Iron Man has some strengths but some serious weaknesses. Tony Stark is well handled, though still cannot touch the amazing work done by Robert Downey Jr. The female lead is pretty good and her story arc was touching; introducing an Asian cultural theme of family duty that most Americans, especially Tony Stark, cannot comprehend. The overall plot is decent, but the villain rather underwhelming, especially because of the terrible inconsistency between animation and cgi. Most of the film is animated, but the villains, (and Iron man himself during some of the fights), is done with very cheesy computer graphics. Saying it looks like a cut-scene from an original X-Box game would be insulting the X-box.
There's some good character work with Tony Stark and the overall storyline is serviceable. And if you don't mind your fight scenes looking like The Sim's, then you'll probably love Invincible Iron Man. But if you're a normal human being, there's no way you'll watch this over the 2008 Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr.
