Review of The Invention of Lying (2009) by David M — 28 Dec 2010

Absolutely great. Inventive original story written by one of my favorite comedians, Ricky Gervais. It is the story of a world in which lying does not exist and one man who becomes able to lie and uses it to change his life.

I think this movie is highly underrated. Some may hate it because they see it as blasphemous, but it really raises interesting questions about the nature of religion,and the reasons people want to believe.

The writing is great, and the acting superb. Thanks to the deadpan humor, I was laughing out loud, and at times it was even really sad, but the overall message was one of hope, one of looking beyond the superficial to see the good in the world.

I think it is a wonderful movie and would recommend it to anyone.
