Review of The Invention of Lying (2009) by Matthew M — 02 Nov 2011
The Invention of Lying is a cracking comedy. It really goes the extra mile in showing just how versatile Ricky Gervais has become as a screen actor. He is a comedy natural, but has evolved into so much more and is geninuely convincing when it comes to the love aspect of the movie.
It's a very touching and moving film for many reasons. It's also full of satire, including one of the most wonderful satirical scenes in recent memory when Gervais stands on the front step of his apartment complex and reels off all that spiel about "the Man in the Sky" in the manner of a modern day Moses.
I can't recommend it enough. It's funny, and it's really, really sweet.
