Review of The Invention of Lying (2009) by Michael V — 15 Nov 2011
This isn't the most consistently funny comedy but it's the most creative comedy I have ever seen. One thing you have to do to really enjoy this and see the brillance is re train your perception and immense yourself in their world.
So in a way it's an interactive comedy I guess. I first quarter of the film wonderfully teaches you how the world works so we can fully understand it. I especially enjoyed how all their movies are documentarys that are told straight from the narrator instead of reinacted.
Then the television commericals advertising Coca Cola was brillant. Also what a wonderful group of actors that got put together for this. Louis C.K. was great. Jonah Hill being Jonah Hill. Tina Fey shined.
And the moments between Gervais and his mother Fionnula Flanagan are Oscar worthy. This is a very touching and powerful comedy. So far the best that Ricky Gervais has given us. I doubt he'll be able to top this but I dare him to try.
Also what a wonderful group of actors that got put together for this.
