Review of The Invasion (2007) by Michael K — 01 Nov 2009
This is another of the running-away-from-stuff movies (War of the Worlds etc.) that seem to have appeared in the wake of the new CGI. But there are very few effects in this brazen re-hashing of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (which is really only a zombie movie with no make-up anyway).
While Craig pouts as a bland leading man and the excellent Jeremy Northrup was wasted, Kidman's lack of emoting, however, fits the bill perfectly and she carries a film that would have been boring with say, a Julia or Gwyneth.
Not much to write home about despite an aura of creepiness at the beginning and some nimble car chases towards the end. What also failed to convince was the fact that no-one bothered to chase the creeps chasing Kidman if running was one of the things that alerted the enemy to her lack of transformation.
