Review of The Invasion (2007) by Barbara E. G — 08 Aug 2010
The American space shuttle explodes on it´s way to earth fragments of the ship is spread over a large area. These fragments carries an alien virus that recodes the human DNA. In Washington D.C, the psychiatrist Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman) observes the modification of the behavior of one of her clients first, then in her former husband and finally in the population in general. Together with her friend Dr. Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig) and the researcher Dr. Stephen Galeano (Jeffrey Wright), they discover that the extraterrestrial epidemic alter human beings while in REM sleep and that her son Ollie, is immune to the disease and may save mankind from the outbreak.
This is of course just a remake of the classic "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers". I know that "The Invasion" was first of all a movie with final print issues which resulted in reshoots. Thus meaning the director Oliver Hirschbiegel and the studio didn´t agree on the end product. And as far as I remember the reviews were not so friendly either. I do however not agree with that. I think "The Invasion" is an ok thriller and the idea of the planet being taken over like that is still creepy. Yes, I admit I am tired of Nicole Kidman´s hysterical looks and frozen facial expressions (which I have said before), but she is ok in "The Invasion". Craig is ok. The action and general feeling of the movie is ok as well. Maybe the ending was a bit so so, but ok I reckon. Thus, ok is the keyword in this review.
