Review of The Invasion (2007) by Carol F — 18 Jan 2011
Love that this remake puts the politics way in the background. It's sort of there if you want it but if not...all the same. "Dr. Galeano" makes Invasion of the Bodysnatchers plausible. He's the key to the story because, for the 21st Century sci-fi audience, genetic research is on the mind. Apart from the politics and the biology lesson Invasion raises an old sociological debate: ARE THINGS GETTING BETTER OR WORSE? You just want Nicole Kidman to prove those sobs wrong and she has to go through hell to do it. I don't see how you can down a handful of amphetamines and a bottle of Mountain Dew and still fall asleep but then again I don't have an alien virus rampaging through my bloodstream. Very intense Very paranoid. Two thumbs up!
"In the right situation we are all capable of the most terrible crimes. To imagine a world where this was not so...where every crisis didn't result in new atrocities...where every newspaper is not full of war and violence. Well, this is to imagine a world where human beings cease to be human." - Yourish.
