Review of The Invasion (2007) by Micheline S — 29 Apr 2013
Starting off in a promisingly creepy way, this reworking of the classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers loses its way and becomes a bit of a mess. A shame as initially, the sense of paranoia is almost palpable.
Nicole Kidman copes well with the scenes where she is the snooty, brittle psychiatrist but as the action ramps up she becomes a whiney pain in the ass, pouting her way through ridiculously OTT scenes of car chases and frantic metro confrontations.
Daniel Craig isn't really given enough to do and sadly, what could have been a bit of a cinematic chiller just becomes a fairly unremarkable kidnap and conspiracy caper. The plot is not helped by some really bizarre edits which appear to be trying to break the traditionally linear format but actually just become annoyingly jarring to the narrative.
All in all, a rather unsatisfying rehash of a classic which has a disappointing cop out right at the end.
