Review of The Invasion (2007) by Michaël G — 11 Nov 2013
Based on the 1955 sci-fi novel, The Invasion begins with the destruction of a space shuttle, Patriot, whose remains contain an alien organism, which infects people on contact and takes over them once they have gone to sleep.
Psychiatrist Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman) and her friend, Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig), begin to suspect all is not well as more and more people behave strangely and one of Carol's patients talks of how her husband is no longer her husband.
I found the build up to The Invasion pretty good and it remained interesting into the second half. From then on the narrative loses its way slightly and we're left with pretty much a routine of infected people chasing Carol and Ben, instead of developing revelations about how to avoid detection and curing the epidemic.
The concluding segment offers a much too easy resolution to the whole crisis, which is a shame as the early reels promised something potentially great.
