Review of The Intouchables (2011) by Kyle K — 29 Apr 2014
A lot of the critics/reviewers who viewed this film as rotten, they seem to have this expectation that every film should be like 'The Master', for example. If it's not some pretentious art house piece of bullshit that only engages people cerebrally, then it must be an inferior movie, appropriate only for the uncultured peasantry.
But 'The Intouchables' satisfies a universal desire that goes unfulfilled with many of those art house movies. That is-a desire to be completely entertained, first and foremost. Secondly, it's the need be completely emotionally engaged in an essential human story.
The screenwriting and directing are so deftly crafted, and the chemistry between the leads are so strong that you never once feel beaten over the head to try to coerce emotion which is a path taken by many movies with similar plots.
I want to recommend this film to anyone who wants a touching film without the story devolving into hallmark schmaltz. 'The Intouchables' is truly captivating and deserves much recognition.
