Review of The Interview (2014) by Jard M — 13 Mar 2015
After the the media attention this film had, it was always going to be hard to live up to that reputation and it's weird because The Interview is your standard run of the mill Seth Rogen movie with a tongue in cheek look at the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
You can only enjoy this film if you don't take it too seriously and if you go in expecting a sharp witted polticial and media satire, you'll be greatly disappointed. The movie is helped by the performance of James Franco who make Dave Skylard a lovable idiot.
Seth Rogen shows his usual range which involved playing Seth Rogen. The movie does try to get a bit political minded and play like serious commentary on the North Korean government as well as the media and love of celebrity.
The latter I think it does quite well in but the political commentary seems forced and out of place. Look, The Interview is a bit of fun and a good way to kill some time but if you're looking for a political minded comedy, look elsewhere.
