Review of The Interview (2014) by Steve W — 12 Apr 2015
The Interview.
The latest epic in the "best friend chronicles" of Seth Rogan and James Franco is a multicultural slap stick riot. The national "hot button" film The Interview, not surprisingly the two delivered another piece that keeps you smiling, laughing and rolling your eyes in comic disbelief.
The story is a tell all of the adventures of lovable idiot/journalist Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his longtime television producer Aaron Rapoport.
The duo's previous episode of the scandalous series Skylark Tonight featured rap icon Eminem "Cleanin' out his Closet" in a shocking reveal that became Skylark's biggest episode to date. However, Slim Shady was not the tip of the iceberg.
When the next episode Skylark Tonight is interrupted by some breaking news regarding the testing of nuclear weapons in North Korea; Skylark and Rapaport are soon contacted by North Korean officials proclaiming that Skylark Tonight is one of Kim Jong-un's favorite shows, and gives them a golden opportunity of an all access, one-on-one interview the "Supreme Leader".
Skylark and Rapaport jump right on top of the opportunity, but the CIA does as well. Before their journey to North Korea, the CIA intercepts Dave and Aaron with a plan to take out the dictator without anyone being the wiser. However, the plan could've been carried out by someone who was maybe...wiser.
From there the film takes off through the questionable actions of our heroes Dave and Aaron, code name: "Dung Beetle" and "Warthog" and the satire surrounding North Korea and its Supreme Leader.
The Interview is fitting in the line of work done by Mr. Rogen and Franco having the same brand of humor as Pineapple Express and This is the End. Do not get caught up in behind the controversy in the news, this film supplies some cheap but also good laughs, and gives new insight on the importance of Katy Perry and margaritas.
